A 4-star hotel in the heart of Amsterdam itself. All the usual facilities are available including Wi-Fi, TV etc. I have assumed that your party of 8 people would be happy with Twin rooms, this however can be adjusted if need be to Singles, but a supplement may be required by the hotel. I’ve also included Breakfast each day, but all other meals will be paid for by yourselves. Due to all the golf venues being within easy driving distance I have selected just the one hotel for the duration of your stay. It is a 17^th century, historic property in the heart of Amsterdam, which has been recently refurbished to the highest of standards.

Golf Travel News – Golf In Poland Is Emerging As An Alternative To Other Golf Destinations

The UK represents one of Poland’s biggest tourism markets along with Germany and France. The Polish Tourist Office is keen to promote all things Polish in the run up to co-hosting the UEFA finals next summer.

Unbeknown to most UK golfers Poland has no less than eighteen 18-hole golf courses, with a further eleven 9-hole courses across the country.

With an average of 4 courses in the near vicinity of each of the six city airports served by flights from the UK and Ireland. For example there are daily direct flights with national carrier LOT from Heathrow to capital city Warsaw and four 18-hole courses nearby.

There are also flights into Warsaw from Luton, Liverpool, Sheffield, Glasgow, Cork and Dublin.

Poland also offers an amazing variety of add-on activities from its unique culture, heritage, nature and wildlife to beautiful beaches, spas, shops, great restaurants and nightlife. All at excellent value for money like the green fees which average between £25 to £45 for 18 holes.

New research reveals that many major airlines have hiked up the price of transporting golf bags – and British Airways is the biggest culprit.

In 2009 ‘the world’s favourite airline’ (according to its own publicity) didn’t charge customers to carry sports equipment additional to checked baggage. Today, however, golfers must pay an extra baggage fee of £30 if they choose to bring their own clubs on a BA flight.

On average, the airlines that impose a flat rate for carrying golf bags have increased their charges by 50 per-cent – quite a significant increase compared to the UK’s current 4% inflation rate. Earlier this year we revealed that some low-cost airlines had increased their prices by as much as 35%.

Oliver Inwards, E-Commerce director at Purple Parking is critical of the airlines motives: “It’s interesting to see how many airlines have chosen to increase fees for transporting golfing equipment. With the economy struggling and less people travelling, passing on even small costs may discourage travellers.

“Many British holidaymakers are already struggling to save up for their holiday, so this is just another added cost to account for.” Airlines could be accused of hiding the real cost from customers he says, with charges varying depending on the airline class you travel in, bag size, bag weight and even the destination you travel to and from.

Online searches for ‘golfing holidays’ reached a peak in August, which is why Purple Parking has chosen now to create its own golf bag bagge allowance table which we reproduce here. It aims to dispel any confusion and clearly outline the additional costs for holidaymakers wishing to take golf equipment abroad.

The research by the Heathrow parking provider also reveals that: American Airlines, BMI, Easyjet, Flybe and Ryanair have all increased their golf carriage fees in the last two years.

In addition to the flat rate increases, American Airlines’ extra baggage charges have increased by 20%, from $50 to $60 (approximately £30 to £36). For baggage weighing more than 45kgs, their oversized baggage fee has increased by from $100 to $150 per item (£61 to £91).

However, there is some good news for golfers travelling overseas. Fly with Air France or the Dutch airline KLM and you benefit from no extra charge for golf clubs, as long as the total weight does not exceed the weight limit per person. In 2009 both airlines charged fixed excess baggage fees. Emirates and Virgin Atlantic also continue to provide free carriage of golfing equipment

Great Britain & Ireland dominated the opening day of the Vivendi Seve trophy as Paul McGinley’s side established a 4-1 advantage after the opening fourballs at St-Nom-La-Bretèche.

Continental Europe started the week as the bookies’ favourites to regain the trophy for the first time since 2000 – Great Britain & Ireland have won the last five contests – but Jean Van De Velde’s side will need to produce a strong fightback if they are to lift the trophy on Sunday.

Ross Fisher and rookie Scott Jamieson led the way for Great Britain & Ireland, beating Swede Peter Hanson and Frenchman Raphaël Jacquelin 6 and 4.

Last week’s KLM Open champion Simon Dyson partnered Welshman Jamie Donaldson to a 2 and 1 victory in the top game against Spanish pair Miguel Angel Jiménez and Pablo Larrazabal.

Robert Rock holed a string of putts as he partnered Ian Poulter to a 5 and 3 win in the last game out, before Francesco Molinari held his nerve on the final green.

The Italian was one up with Anders Hansen coming down the last, butt Lee Westwood holed a 20 foot putt which looked to have salvaged a half for the World Number Two and Mark Foster.

But the Italian converted an eight footer before Darren Clarke and David Horsey held on for a one up victory over rookie pairing Nicolas Colsaerts and Matteo Manassero.

Seve Trophy captain Paul McGinley produced a breathtaking run to sprint within two strokes of the Dutch Open third-round lead on Saturday.

The 44-year-old Irishman chalked up an eagle and five birdies in seven holes on his way to a six-under-par 64 for an eight-under tally of 202, two behind South Africa’s James Kingston (66) and Briton Gary Orr (66).

Although it was not official because preferred lies are being used due to this week’s heavy rain, McGinley’s total of 28 shots for nine holes was only one off the European Tour record.

The scintillating run between the 10th and 18th, his front nine, was a career-best for McGinley.

He will be leading Britain and Ireland against Jean Van de Velde’s Continental Europe in France next week and McGinley was delighted to show his Seve Trophy team what he could do.

“It’s good to show the guys I can still play a bit,” he told reporters. “I don’t think I’ve ever put a run like that together in my career.”

McGinley, three times on Europe’s winning Ryder Cup team and the man who holed the putt to clinch the 2002 match against the U.S., has been looking for his fifth tour title for the last six years.

In that spell he has had to recover twice from knee operations.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been in contention and if things go right tomorrow you never know what could happen,” he added.

The leading pair are, like McGinley, in their mid-40s, and both are looking for their third tour victories.

 

STEADY PROGRESS

Orr, 44, has had the longer wait since winning twice in 2000. While the Scot made steady progress on Saturday, the 45-year-old Kingston recovered from an opening double-bogey with five birdies in the last eight holes.

Briton David Lynn, a former winner of the event, carded a 68 to take third place on nine-under.

With McGinley  on eight-under is Briton Simon Dyson, trying to win the title for the third time in five years, Sweden’s Niclas Fasth and Frenchman Alexandre Kaleka.

U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy revived a flagging round with four birdies in eight holes coming home as a 68 lifted him within three shots of the lead.

The Northern Irishman will replace Germany’s Martin Kaymer as world number three if he finishes in the top seven here.

World number two Lee Westwood, who is six strokes off the pace, cannot be overtaken by McIlroy in the rankings.
